Wondering what to choose
This is a great show and for me the soundboard does it justice. (Just too much crowd noise in the other mixes I heard) This material is so hot- I don't
...
want to hear someone yelling for Dark Star during the WRS. There is much to enjoy here. The versions of the tunes here are compact.(I started listening at Brown Eyed and everything up to Mexicali is tight) Special Note: - Keith's piano work, Donna's vocals Partial review of SET ONE: "It Must have been the Roses" Jerry's vocals on Roses/ band's backing vocals. Donna's backing vocals on the RACE IS ON enhance Bobby's great vocal delivery. Scarlet Begonias in 1974 was great.(I had a version from France that had the vocals way down and I just loved listening to the be-bop of this tune) The moans in SCARLET coupled with Phil's bass are heavy duty and of course Garcia's licks! EL PASO- Ride Cowboy Ride:) Row Jimmy Row- I don't often comment on the drums but I love how Billy works alongside Phil in the rhythm section. This ROW JIMMY is SWEET. What is Keith doing to get that sound How are Donna & Jerry harmonizing like that!!!! I am a fan of Money, Money regardless of the silly lyrics To have that tune here is a rarity. This song rolls like a bowling ball thrown by a child that takes forever to get down the lane then just tears down every pin. [If Jerry could play LOOSE LUCY?] Here comes SHIP OF FOOLS- how this tune ever got itself mixed up in the 2nd set I don't know? Keith doing freaky stuff with Keyboard. Again if you listen to Donna her harmonies are right on for 'Ship of fools' WRS>CHINA DOLL graceful gracious grateful dead!.!. -------------- AND LIKE A DESERT SPRING MY LOVER COMES AND SPREADS HER WINGS... >>>>>Just a Little Nervous from THE FALL!!! Set Two The Playing in the Band is the real deal. Please if you have the time check it out. I had to listen to it a few times to get the initial jam but from the 38 minute mark on it is some of the finest and inspired music they ever made. Whatever they are doing to get back to the MAIN TEN is just otherworldly almost like STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN or something.[BOB WEIR] A biblical reference might be JACOB'S LADDER. And of course I just kept going right into U.S. Blues, GOOD OLD GRATEFUL DEAD... Phil fretting on his bass, Big River with Billy just tearing into the drums. Still chewing on that P.I.T.B they nailed the reprise- Donna's wailing onward. WOW!!! Good jam inside Big River. They could play anything at this point. Jerry is just plain rowdy on guitar Keith with excellent counterpoint. EYES OF THE WORLD- Do I comment on Keith , Phil ,Jerry, Donna's vocals, Freaking BOB WEIR! Billy keeping time A tinge of Stronger than Dirt---Just a pure Eyes jam then the breaks get put on. I know what is coming but I have no clue how they get there, sounds like Phil and Jerry know the way Again hitting the Stronger than Dirt. This is going into WHARF RAT??? Jerry is so laid back in the delivery of his verses. "Half of my life I spent doing time for some other f@ckers crime" This is a monster WHARF RAT. nice jam on the back end. (EYES > WHARF RAT another rarity) That guitar intro on Sugar Magnolia was down and dirty. Listen to the guys singing together!!! Render Bob, Render "SHE CAN MAKE HAPPY, ANY MAN ALIVE" Sunshine Daydream Johnny B Goode
